I'd be curious to see how "authentic faith" is defined.

Is this an issue of who he slept with (in this case, his cousin) or is it about his still keeping contact with this person who he was once intimate with, and the apparent double-standard which he applies to you and your past flames?

In Memorandum
by RichieRich init was the 14th of april last year that i had to sit my mother down and tell her i was an apostate.. i was closer to her than anyone else.
my father and mother are still married, but he let her raise me as a witness, and that meant it was me and mom.. me and mom in field service for 100 hours in july because she had to make her time as a regular pioneer.. me and mom fighting over what to bring for lunch to the district convention.. me and mom up late at night, when she would berate me, and then unload all her problems on to me.. me and mom and our 4 hour family studies, where we discuss 2 paragraphs of a random book, and then she would browbeat me until early in the morning.. somehow, through all that, i pretended to be a witness for years, just to appease her.
looking back, i don't know if i loved her, or if i was just afraid of her.

OMG swalker! That made me throw up in my mouth a little. If you link over to his website, you'll see that the poor soul is disfellowshipped and is trying so hard to get back in. Not sure that this is really going to help him. Doesn't he know that the org thinks the internet is from the debil?
My heart is aching for this guy. He's just looking for more pain.

Are JW kids allowed to be kids?
by tall penguin ini had a memory come up today.
i recall there was a time when kids were allowed to read the subheadings at the watchtower study.
they cut that out because they wanted kids to participate in the same way as the adults, by answering the questions for the paragraphs.

Most people I know these days, jw or not, didn't have a much of a childhood. It's not part of our culture anymore to let kids be kids. Abuse, in all of its forms, has become more common than not.
I feel your logic, jamie, in the following statement though is greatly flawed: "As a teenages, or even young child, you really don't have to go to a meeting, you can actually go to a court and say you don't want it, and your parents can't kick you out till your 18."
To suggest that the average child is even aware of such laws, or has the ability to pursue such a possibility is inane to say the least. To further suggest that a child who is indoctrinated as heavily as a jw is could make that leap, is even more inane.
It seems you may be seeing this issue through your own perceptions and through the eyes of your own experience. Horrific as your experience was, there are sides to this argument that you are missing out on.
What we can agree on is that getting stuck in what was lost is not conducive to enjoying life now. What's done is done. Yet, there is healing to be had. And some days are better than others. We're all in different parts of the process here. That is why this kind of discussion is so useful, to see a perspective that perhaps we hadn't previously entertained. Thank you for being part of it.

Glad you liked LMS. Great film.
Okay, in no particular order:
Dummy (Adrien Brody & Milla Jovovich) Comedy
Team America (Wooden Marionettes) Very crude comedy by the writers of "South Park". You'll either totally love it or be so offended you will never ask me for movie recommendations again. ;)
Spanglish (I agree with Terry on this one. Surprising performance by Adam Sandler. May make you a bit melancholy though.)

"There are better things, and more people to help than sitting around talking about not having a childhood cause of what you were taught as a kid, or that a religion robbed a childhood. Try being molested, that's when you can't have a childhood anymore, when you stop being, when you look at yourself and you don't exist anymore."
I hear you Jamie. Sounds like you've been through a lot in this life. With due respect, abuse of any sort can rob a child of their childhood. Sexual, physical, verbal AND spiritual. IMHO one sort of abuse does not rank higher on the suffering scale than others. It is all individual experience, affected by things like genetics, perceptions, support systems or lack thereof, length of abuse, who the abuse was perpetrated by, and on and on.
While I feel for your pain, please recognize that others are in pain as well. It's not about negativity. It's about healing.

If you haven't seen it, "Little Miss Sunshine" is great. Comedy and drama rolled into one. Everyone I've recommended it to has loved it.
And it scored a whopping 92% on the "Rotten Tomatoes" site, which is a very high rating.
